are concrete roof tiles nailed down

2023-06-17

Concrete roof tiles are a convenient and reliable choice for many homeowners when it comes to the construction of their roofs due to their resilience and relatively simple installation process. However, an important factor that needs to be resolved is whether or not these roof tiles require nailing.

Yes, it is necessary to secure concrete roof tiles with nails. After all, the weight of the material makes them more vulnerable to being ripped away during windy weather; unless attached firmly with nails, there is a risk of them becoming loose and being swept aside. Nailing them down helps to keep the tiles in place and stop them from taking flight.

With many concrete roof tiles, you won’t need much to install them; a strip of nails is already attached for your convenience. All you must do is line up the nails with the holes in the tiles and give them a few taps with your hammer. In the off-chance that your tiles don’t come with nails, you can always pop into the hardware store for some!

To provide an additional layer of protection to your tiling project, you will need to cover the installed nails with a thick coat of roofing cement. This substance will act as a barrier, preventing any moisture or condensation from infiltrating the tiles and potentially causing damage. Be sure to apply the cement in generous amounts and spread it over the circumference of each nail’s head.

Now that the cement has hardened and cured, your concrete roof tiles will be there to stay. To complete the roofing process, the remaining roof components should be brought into play.
